**** If you’re an existing iPhone user from Rogers dont comment saying that this is old news because some of the newer users on the Telus and Bell network might not know this information ****

Seeing it’s not a good idea right now to do a Tethered Jailbreak on the new iPhone 3GS on Telus/Bell/Rogers users are complaining about the non-customizable features of the iPhone itself. I have found a simpler way to “atleast” change the ringtones on the phone itself. It’s not the easiest fix, but atleast it wont void your warranty nor brick it.

What you need to get the job done:

3GS iPhone

iTunes updated to the latest version

Audio editing software. Anyone will do, I used AVS Media’s Audio Editor

Some window command knowledge — stupid Vista

Lets get started:

Edit your song/ringtone to just under 30 seconds using your audio editor and save it as an mp3.

Drag the newly created file into iTunes’ music folder (it really doesnt matter if your phone is connected)

Click on the song, go up to Advanced –> Create AAC Version

Drag the AAC version of the song onto the Desktop

Open Command (click, Start –> Run –> cmd) and rename the file from whatever.m4a to whatever.m4r

If you are having trouble renaming go here: How to Rename

Drag the renamed file back into iTunes, don’t worry, it disapears with in the interface.

Sync your iPhone and you’re done.

Now go into Ringtones and at the top you will see “Custom Ringtones”

I hope this helps
